K2 Cool Bean

John Howland December 31, 2015

From pillow poppin’ to hand drags this little bean does it all!

Length - 144cm

Sidecut Radius 7.4m

Waist Width - 28.7cm

Flex - Med/Stiff

As a dreamer on a budget, I don’t think I am the only one fearful of getting a board suitable only for the waist deep days. Thankfully this year K2 is bringing the Cool Bean to the table, with the ability to surf the deep stuff and slash the cord like a champ. Short; coming in only one size of 144 and a fatty at 28.7 waist this thing may be overlooked by some but it rips! A zero cambered board with a giant nose, fairly aggressive side cut, and swallow tail, allows you to Euro-carve this little beast all over the mountain. Yeti riders no longer have a fear of toe drag on this small package monster; the swallow tail is stiff, holding its own dropping the cliffs sprinkled across Mt. Baker. I took this board out on a 12in Northwest pow day. Fun can be fired on all cylinders with this $500 buy. Find a local dealer and buy.

Fritschi Diamir Vipec 12 Binding

John Howland June 4, 2015

I got my hand's on a set of the Vipec's during the '14/'15 season in New Zealand.  Previously I had been touring on a Marker Duke, so no matter which tech direction I went, the drop in weight was a game changer.

This boot has given me the best fit and performance I have ever had in a boot, I highly recommend giving the Custom Shell technology a try, it may just change your entire ski game for the better.

Rocky Mountain Underground Summit Pole

John Howland June 1, 2015

RMU came out with the Summit Pole, a rebranded ski pole, which I believe is also part of 4FRNT's line up, under their own name.  The Summit Pole is rad!  I have been using the traditional Black Diamond telescoping pole for a few years and the Summit Pole is almost half the weight with just as much telescoping range.

Rocky Mountain Underground: Apostle '13/'14

John Howland June 1, 2015

The RMU Apostle is the best touring ski I've ever had.  100mm under foot and a medium flex, these sticks slice through most conditions with ease.  The backcountry is always full of unknowns and having a set of skis that you can depend on to handle anything you may encounter is invaluable.

Rocky Mountain Underground: North Shore '14/'15

John Howland June 1, 2015

If your looking to unleash the inner beast, this is the ski! 115mm under foot and tails as stiff as tree trunks screams deep pow and burly lines. Not a ski for the casual cruiser but if you want to feel like you should be dropping in next on the FWT, this is your ski. I took a pair to New Zealand with me this summer as was blown away. These things have a soul of their own and are itching to pin chutes and stomp burly airs; the North Shore is nothing short of a big mountain weapon.
